A joint study between UNIL, NIHS and EPFL shows that exercise enhances super complex formation in the mitochondria of human muscles
Francesca Amati, associate professor at the Department of physiology and Institute of sports sciences of Unil, and her team show the beneficial moldecular effects of exercise on metabolism in healthy, sendentary older adults. This study was done in collaboration with other LIMNA members, the Prof. Johan Auwerx from EPFL and the Dr. Carles Cantò from NIHS.
It shows, for the time. that exercise affects mitochondrial supercomplex formation and reveal a new adaptative mechanism for increased energy demand and thus that the human skeletal muscle respiratory chain is profoundly affected by 4 months of endurance exercise (see article).
